If we’re going to be honest 2016 hasn’t been a great year for cinema. Sure there have been some brilliant films released (Have you seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!) but the majority have left audiences feeling disappointed.
Warer Bros and DC Comics fell flat on their faces as it launched its attempt at a cinematic empire, X-Men: Apocalypse was just a terrible mess and even Zoolander 2 had zero personality.
However, 2017 is now on our doorsteps and looks set to be a fantastic year for film. There are returns from some much loved characters, plenty of sequels to get excited about and much, much more to look forward to.
Here’s a quick list of everything we’re excited about…
Silence
Martin Scorsese is one of Hollywood’s greatest directors and his next film Silence is already being applauded as one of his best works. It’s taken 28 years for the film to reach our screens so it better be good!
Released January 1.
La La Land
Dream team Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone reunite for this modern day musical set in the city of stars and dreams.
Released January 13.
T2: Trainspotting
Director Danny Boyle has brought the whole gang back twenty years later for a sequel that the world’s been waiting for.
Released January 27.
Fifty Shades Darker
It’s safe to say that the Fifty Shades series is not for everyone but there’s undoubtedly a fan base out there that can’t wait for the sequel which looks sexier, thrilling and ultimately a whole lot darker.
Released February 10.
The Lego Batman Movie
If the adventures of bottom slapping Christian Grey don’t appeal to you, there is an alternative film to see in February. Will Arnett’s Batman was the best thing about The Lego Movie and now he has his very own film.
Released February 10.
Logan
The first of many superhero films we can’t wait to see is Logan. Hugh Jackman just never fails to please as Wolverine.
Released March 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2
The first film surprised audiences with its quick wit, funky soundtrack and offbeat humour and the sequel looks set to be bigger and better, especially thanks to the adorable Baby Groot.
Released April 28.
Alien: Covenant
Yes Prometheus was a mess but Covenant promises more action, Xenomorphs and less bullshit.
Released May 19.
Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was the only decent thing about Batman V Superman and let’s face it; it is about time we had a female led superhero movie.
Released June 2.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Now, it is about time we had a decent Spider-Man film and here’s hoping this is it.

Dunkirk
Movie maestro Christopher Nolan has made a war film. What more could you want?

2016 was a crap year for DC Comics after both its films disappointed but the footage from their version of The Avengers looks incredible.
