When the release date for the latest series of the hit ITV2 reality television show Love Island was announced, fans were left in uproar as it clashed with the World Cup.
With Britain gripped by both World Cup and Love Island fever, millions face the tough decision every night of whether to watch the latest match or see what the newest drama is among the islanders.
Apparently, catching up at a later time just isn’t good enough!
Luckily though, with evening matches starting at 7:00 pm the game will have finished before Love Island kicks off at 9:00 pm.
Which is exactly what 26-year-old Carrie from Belfast realised, while she was out enjoying the Spain v Portugal game on June 15.
Watching the game at her local pub, Carrie figured she didn’t have enough time to run home before Love Island started, and so asked the pub to pop it on the big screen when the final whistle blew.
Thankfully they were more than happy to oblige:
Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Carrie explained how she couldn’t miss any island drama, saying:
Some friends and I were having drinks after work and keeping an eye on the very exciting Spain v Portugal match.
When it ended I asked if the pub would put Love Island on so I could see it. They said that if they had that channel then why not. My friends were teasing me for watching it and I found it really funny.
This is the first series I’ve watched but I do enjoy it. The World Cup is also great and there’s a fun atmosphere when the big matches are on. I support England, originally being from there.
I’m not sure too many people noticed Love Island was on but no one seemed to mind.
Like Carrie, an 11-year-old girl in Leicestershire also can’t miss a second of each Love Island episode – throwing a tantrum when her parents wouldn’t let her watch it.
After they denied her permission, the girl’s parents had to ring 999 and ask for the police to come to their home as she allegedly threatened them with violence.
Market Bosworth Police posted about the ‘public disorder incident’ on Facebook writing:
Colleagues from PRT (Patrol and Resolution Team) have just popped into the office after dealing with an ‘incident’ in Barlestone, where an 11-year-old girl ‘kicked off’ because she wasn’t allowed to watch Love Island.
Due to the information passed on by the caller, this was risk assessed and graded as a ‘grade one’ – which means they attended as an emergency on blues and twos.
True story.
In the comments section of the Facebook post, Market Bosworth Police made it clear the call had been dealt with seriously, confirming the family had received ‘support, safeguarding referrals and a holistic review of the incident’.
They also confirmed ‘ongoing support measures are also in place’.
