Everyone will wish that this was their mum after reading how she reacted to her daughter’s first scrape in her car.
19-year-old York student Liv Hirst panicked when she went into the back of another car, and sent a long, apologetic message to her mum, who was on holiday at the time.
Liv was worried she would ruin their holiday with the news that her insurance premium might go up, but luckily her mum was feeling particularly jolly.
In response to Liv’s panicked message, her mum said:
I’m too pissed to deal with now hunny.
Hope your [sic] okay silly.
Speaking to UNILAD, Liv explained:
My parents went on holiday to Tenerife on Sunday and I work in York but live in Leeds.
So I was driving back to Leeds on Sunday evening and took my eyes off the road whilst the pace of the traffic slowed right down and I went into the back of a car.
So I was really scared to tell my parents because they pay for my insurance as I’m a student and can’t afford it myself, so I worked myself up and wrote a huge paragraph and my mum was pissed so it was all fine.
The reaction was exactly what anyone would dream of, with her mum showing no anger about the crash and only concern for how Liv was.
Liv posted the screenshots of their exchange on Twitter and it received nearly 3k retweets and 38k likes.
One Twitter user said they could ‘feel the anxiety coming from that paragraph tho for real’, while others tagged their friends saying ‘this would be you as a mum’.
Another user wrote:
Bless, that’s the best reaction. Try not to worry too much, this stuff happens and it’s not the end of the world.
Liv continued:
Yeah she told me not to worry about it, it happens to everyone and that the main thing is that it wasn’t serious and I’m okay.
I told her how many likes she got on twitter and she said ‘omg your Twitter friends probably think I’m a freak now’.
I’m just really relieved that she’s so understanding, she’s had bumps to her car before so I don’t know why I was so scared.
I just really appreciate what they do for me like paying for my insurance and stuff so I was so worried that the price of my insurance would potentially go up.
Some Twitter users were lacking a sense of humour and berated Liv for calling the other driver ‘pathetic’ if they claimed for the small black mark on their car.
In response, Liv wrote:
He’s pathetic because he could get the mark off with some T cut and if he claimed it’d most likely be to rinse the insurance company for whiplash or something. I’d quite clearly pay for damage IF there was any…
The moral of this story? Make sure your parents are pissed before you reveal any regretful behaviour.
