Joe Callingham, 25, met his girlfriend Pineapple Featonby, 24, in that very same shop last November and it was love at first sight.

Months later joe plucked up the courage to pop the question over a pasty and here’s what happened:

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Greggs held romantic candlelit dinners in five locations around the country for the very first time.

Couples were treated to a four-course set menu made entirely of Greggs products, which were given a Valentine’s twist.

Here’s a taster:

When he spotted the shop would be holding a Valentine’s Day dinner he realised it was the perfect opportunity to pop the question and got in touch with Greggs to request their help with the plan.

When I saw Greggs were holding a Valentine’s evening at the same shop where we first met there was no question I had to book a table and propose.

I got in touch with Greggs and they helped make everything happen from icing the dessert plate to playing our favourite song when it came out. It was just perfect.

He also, conveniently, installed a video camera so he could capture the moment.

After their main course, dessert was presented to his girlfriend with the words: ‘Will you marry me?’ iced on to the plate and Joe got down on one knee, presenting her with a ring.

She said yes and they were whisked off in a Rolls Royce Phantom at the end of the night; a little treat organised by Greggs.

The couple, from Hemel Hempstead, met when Joe recognised her from his home turf, while she was buying pineapple chunks.

They both got the train back to Hemel and chatted the entire way.

Yet, rookie error – while he got her number Joe forgot to ask for her name – which used to be Chelsea – FYI – so instead, saved her in his phone as ‘Pineapple Girl’.

Three months later she legally changed her name to Pineapple, before he got down on one knee.

Greggs

A spokesperson for Greggs said:

It’s not every day we get a proposal in one our shops, so when Joe got in touch to tell us their story and what he was planning we were delighted to play our part by helping him set up the big question and making sure they had a romantic evening.

Love’s Young Dreamers were treated to a composition of canapés listed as: seasoned pork and puff pastry sliders, steak & blue cheese en croute, katsu tortilla wraps, Mexican chicken chipotle spoon, béchamel toasted honey cured ham squares and tomato gazpacho.

Greggs

The main course was a signature Greggs puff pastry parcel, freshly baked to order, accompanied by oven roasted spiced potato slices and a garnish of fresh Apollo and spinach leaves and sunblush tomatoes.

Dessert was a ‘brochette of miniature doughnuts paired with a rich butterscotch flavoured dipping sauce’.

The final course, or Petit Fours and Coffee if you’re posh, consisted of a Belgian dark chocolate brownie, raspberry and almond bite and caramel shortbread, accompanied by freshly ground Fairtrade coffee made using a unique blend of mild Arabica beans from Peru and Colombia and rich tasting Robusta beans from Tanzania.

The Valentine’s dinners were held in shops in Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and London.

Bookings were made via OpenTable and sold out in under 20 minutes.
