Scottish lads Ollie and Dave are getting ready for a trip to Greece’s party island Crete, to pay a visit to Malia.
Whenever someone mentions a lads holiday, I can’t think of anything else but the Pussay Patrol from The Inbetweeners, but I digress.
21-year-old Ollie was taking charge of the organisation and decided to check them in online. To do this, he needed a photo of Dave’s passport.
The events which followed are just good, clean banter…
Speaking to UNILAD, Ollie said:
Okay so it’s me and my friend Davie, we’ve been friends for years through gigs and that kind of thing. We are going to Malia in a couple of weeks.
I got an email in the morning saying the online check in was open so I texted him so I could get us checked in for the flights and get our boarding passes. [sic]
Obviously, as the screenshot says, I needed a photo of his passport to get his passport number so I could check us in.
I don’t know whether he thought it was just they needed proof that he had a passport or whatever but he just sent a photo of his passport.
I was at work when I got the text and I was sat on my lunch break and I just burst out laughing in the canteen. He then went on to claim he meant it as a joke but I’m not buying it.
Dave sent Ollie a photo of the front of his passport. You know, the generic maroon cover with a gold embossed coat of arms which every passport has.
If it was a joke, bravo. If it wasn’t, an even bigger congrats to Dave. He just made a lot of people laugh.
Ollie posted screenshots of the conversation on Twitter and the post received 13.5k retweets and and over 62k likes, at the time of writing.
Talking about the aftermath of the joke, Ollie said:
The reaction was ridiculous. It had just a few hundred retweets and I woke up one morning to having 8000 notifications.
I had to turn my notifications off to stop my phone dying, absolutely unbelievable.
One commenter made a good point, saying:
Not sure what’s funnier what he sent you or the fact his name is saved as ‘fat mongo Davie’ [sic]
Another wrote:
I work for a tour operator and can tell you this happens more often than you’d think.
Many commenters tagged their friends, saying it’s something they would do. One just really enjoyed Dave’s joke, saying:
OMG I love that so much technically still a photo of the passport. [sic]
Another observant Twitter user pointed out it was a ‘live photo’, saying:
I also love the fact it’s a ‘live’ photo too, just to add insult to injury.
I really hope Dave just genuinely thought his photo would suffice. If that’s the calibre of joke they’re used to, I want a livestream of their lads holiday!
