Woman Has ‘Funeral For Her Singleness’ Instead Of Hen Do

When men celebrate stag dos, they can often treat the situation like a wake, mourning the loss of their friend to a fate some say is worse than death – marriage.

Meanwhile the hens commonly keep it more light-hearted celebrating the fact their friend is getting married with an appropriate amount of champagne, shots and topless butlers.

However, when 27-year-old Kristi Hamby from Florida was tasked with organising a bachelorette party for her best friend Lizzy Hart, she decided to do things differently hosting ‘a funeral for Lizzy’s singlehood’.

And it was as brilliant as it sounds!

Speaking exclusively to UNILAD, Kristi explained how she felt her ‘best friend deserved a bachelorette party as unique as she is’ and so decided to throw ‘a funeral for her singlehood’ as Lizzy is fascinated by all things macabre.

For the horror-themed night, Kristi ensured the girls were all dressed up in black, complete with veils, and made all the decorations and games rather bloody. ‘Dirty Death Pictionary’ does indeed sound better than the regular version though!

She even gave the butlers in buffs horror masks to wear and arranged for a hearse to transport Lizzy to the party.

You can watch her darkly glamorous entrance here:

Kristi admitted to UNILAD getting the hearse proved to be rather difficult but knew it would be worth the wait.

She said:

I love party planning so I refused to do anything short of going big for this one.

My biggest obstacle was finding a hearse that would transport her to the party. I spent months emailing and calling every funeral home in Orlando asking if they could provide a live person transport and the response was not ideal.

Eventually a funeral director gave me the number of a limousine company that had a hearse and they were available!

I even asked the driver not to speak to her or acknowledge her the entire time to make it as awkward as possible, and she loved it.

On arrival Lizzy was then further surprised by her friends waiting outside the house, dressed in black, holding balloons that read RIP.

Of course she loved it!

Having been friends with Lizzy since the first day of kindergarten, Kristi knew how excited she would be for the bachelorette party and so decided to tease her with clues about the theme while ensuring everything would still be a surprise.

Reassuring Lizzy the event wouldn’t be a ‘typical bachelorette party’, Kristi also cut out letters from magazines to spell ‘death is near’.

Numbering them and mailing them out one by one to Lizzy’s address, the bride-to-be figured out the night would be horror themed but was still stunned her friends were hosting a funeral for her.

Lizzy, who is getting married this October, told UNILAD the funeral idea could’t be more perfect.

She said:

When we pulled up and the girls all had sombre faces, I couldn’t believe how well they were all playing along.

We walked into the house and the entire place looked like a memorial service. Kristi did an amazing job at keeping everything a secret and really going all out with the theme.

It was hilarious and a party I will never forget. It was absolutely the best party I could have had. I’m very into everything horror and morbid so it was perfectly suited for my liking.

I’m so lucky to have a group of friends that are willing to go along with my darker side. Kristi knows me better than anyone so I knew she would make it perfect.

With Kristi getting married next year, Lizzy is now going to try give her a run for her money by taking Kristi to Colombia for her bachelorette party.

We wish you all the best with your wedding Lizzy.

And Kristi, do you fancy organising my bachelorette party, ahem, ‘funeral for my singlehood’ for when I get married?
