50 Cent has confirmed the spin-off for his show Power will be a prequel to the original.
Despite still being in the process of filming season six of the hit show, Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent, has overflown with excitement about the new series and has spilled the beans about what the spin-off will be about.
After hitting our television screens back in 2014, Power has followed the story of James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick as he tries to juggle his complicated web of drug dealing, running a nightclub and keeping his relationships in check.
As well as starring in the first few seasons alongside main man Omari Hardwick, who plays Ghost, Jackson also works as a producer on the show.
Series creator, Courtney A. Kemp, has revealed Power does have an end date, but has not revealed when it might be.
According to Digital Spy, Kemp explained how the show had been extended from five seasons, saying:
The show is ending, but I can’t say when. That would be inappropriate.
How I wanted it to be was five seasons. We extended because of needs at the network. So, am I happy to be going into season 6? For sure, because I know where the show is going now.
The creator also gave fans an insight into what they can expect to see from the new series, adding:
The story we’re telling in season 6 is so good… it’s so much better because it is really about the inevitability of choices. [sic]
It’s about the domino effect and it’s about the things that have happened between Ghost and Tommy and how they are not things that can go back to the way it used to be.
Despite Power still being in the making, 50 Cent has set his sights on his next project, which will take the form of a Power prequel.
He revealed on Instagram the new show will be throwing back to the 80s, which he emphasised in his accompanying picture as he sat on top of an old-school police car.
Revealing the exciting Power prequel news, he wrote:
My Power spin off is so crazy I’m doing the prequel. Wait till you see this sh*t, TGE influence (The Golden Era) Southside we outside 1988. [sic]
Unfortunately Jackson didn’t mention when the sequel might be released, or exactly what it will focus on, but hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long to find out!
Until then, season six of Power is expected to return in 2019.
