Anne Hathaway has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after nearly 20 years in the movie business.

Many young adults will know Hathaway best as Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, Princess of Genovia – aka Mia from the 2001 film The Princess Diaries, but the actor has taken on a huge range of roles since then.

As well as movies like Ella Enchanted and Alice In Wonderland, Hathaway has starred in Les Misérables, The Dark Kinght Rises, The Devil Wears Prada, Ocean’s Eight, and most recently The Hustle, alongside Rebel Wilson.

The American actor was awarded for her hard work on Thursday (May 9), when she received her star on the Walk of Fame.

In a speech at the ceremony, Hathaway thanked the Tongva, the indigenous people of Los Angeles.

She said:

I started to think about the land that goes underneath the star, that land that goes beneath all of these stars, and how it was cared and kept for millennia, more than millennia, by the Tongva people.

I think it’s important to mention that they still live here today. So the soul and the spirit that runs through the earth beneath us originates with and continues to be kept by them.

So I would like to begin by thanking the Tongva people and by acknowledging that they are the rightful keepers of the land this star is on.

The 36-year-old was joined by lots of supporters at the event, including her husband Adam Shulman, her mother Kate McCauley Hathaway, and her father Gerald Hathaway.

She thanked her loved ones for their support, saying:

The gift of being the focus and recipient of your tremendous and enlightened love is, along with motherhood, the most important and profound part of my very blessed life.

I am able to walk through this world as I do because you make me safe, held, seen and adored. I love you.

The Hustle co-star Wilson also attended the event to support her friend, where she was pictured kneeling by the star and striking a pose of awe as she pointed towards Hathaway.

Hathaway’s films have reportedly earned $6.4 billion worldwide, and at just 36 years old her career may not have even peaked.

Congratulations!
