In his first interview since leaving rehab TV star Ant McPartlin has revealed he almost died after becoming addicted to super strong painkillers.
Ant was checked into rehab in June after confessing to his wife Lisa and partner Dec that he was struggling with an addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs including ‘super strength’ painkillers.
Ant told the The Sun on Sunday:
I was at the point where anything — prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs — I would take.
And take them with alcohol, which is ridiculous. The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’.
He also revealed how he once begged Lisa to call him an ambulance after bingeing on pills which resulted in him being rushed to hospital at 5am.
Before he entered rehab Ant apologised for his behaviour and thanked his family for their support.
He added:
I have spoken out because I think it is important that people ask for help if they are going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.
Since leaving rehab his friends and colleagues have all claimed that Ant is winning his battle with drink and drugs.
The I’m A Celebrity presenter is now clean of all drugs other than paracetamol for the first time in three years.
More of a concept than a journalist, Tom Percival was forged in the bowels of Salford University from which he emerged grasping a Masters in journalism.
Since then his rise has been described by himself as ‘meteoric’ rising to the esteemed rank of Social Editor at UNILAD as well as working at the BBC, Manchester Evening News, and ITV.
He credits his success to three core techniques, name repetition, personality mirroring, and never breaking off a handshake.
