Avengers: Endgame has lived up to its ambitious premise, enjoying the biggest opening weekend at the box office ever recorded.
With the weekend not yet over, the final installment in the Avengers’ story is expected to have raked in $358 million domestically by the end of the day, and it is thought it will become the very first $1 billion opening weekend at the global box office.
These phenomenal figures have truly left Avengers: Infinity War in the dust, surpassing the most talked about film of 2018 – which brought in $257.7 million – by over $100 million.
Avengers: Endgame has also smashed the 2015 record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the highest-grossing opening day by over $38 million.
Avengers: Endgame was rolled out in cinemas across the globe one year after Avengers: Infinity War proved a hit at the domestic and global box office.
According to CNN Business, Avengers: Endgame is estimated to have grossed $487 million overseas, breaking the record for the biggest opening weekend internationally. This impressive record was previously held by The Fate of the Furious (2017).
As reported by Variety, senior media analyst at Comscore, Paul Dergarabedian, said:
This massive and historic debut shows that by delivering consistently great movies coupled with characters inhabited by perhaps the most perfectly cast group of actors in cinematic history, Marvel has literally rewritten the rule book and in the process has made box office history.
