Avengers: Endgame has broken the all-time record for an opening night in the box office.

There’s no denying the latest Marvel film was one of the most highly-anticipated movies of all time, and now the figures prove just how excited fans were.

After just one night in theatres, Endgame made history by achieving the biggest opening preview night in box office history.

Of course, I’m sure it helped that many cinemas had the film playing every few minutes in order to adhere to the thousands of fans who were clamouring to be among the first to see it.

According to ComicBook, Thursday night projections had Endgame finishing the preview outing at around $43 million. However, the film massively exceeded its expectations, pulling in a whopping $60 million on Thursday night alone.

The film knocked the previous record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, from the top spot, which it had held for the past four years. In 2015, Star Wars earned $57 million on its preview night.

Although the film has only been available for a matter of hours, the huge earnings suggest it will soon break more records.

The current record holder for the highest earnings on an opening weekend is Endgame’s predecessor, Infinity War, which earned $257 million in the few days after its release.

With $60 million already under its belt, it’s entirely possible that Endgame will beat Infinity War’s record over the next three days. The film may even hit the $300 million mark in its opening weekend – an achievement no other movie in US box office history can claim.

Endgame brings the Infinity saga to a close, wrapping up all the loose ends which were left behind after Infinity War.

Hype around the film has existed pretty much since the credits started rolling on last year’s instalment, and excitement has only grown with the release of trailers, interviews and good reviews.

The film has people laughing, crying and cheering, and with a three-hour run time it certainly keeps them entertained!
