Avengers: Endgame is finally here, and its secrets are starting to unravel. The new film features a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe – but don’t worry, learning about it won’t spoil anything.
Really, I couldn’t drop any spoilers even if I wanted to – I’ve not seen the film. I know the Avengers take on Thanos, Captain Marvel makes an appearance, and, according to the reviews I’ve read so far, it’s very emotional.
But apart from that, your guess is as good as mine.
So what’s this mysterious Marvel ‘first’ which features in the film, I hear you ask? Well it’s not so much what the film has, but rather what it lacks.
One of the best parts of going to see a new MCU movie is the knowledge that even when the main feature ends, there’s still a little bit more to come in the form of the post-credits scene.
I imagine Marvel’s films have some of the most well-read credits ever thanks to the sneaky final clip, as most audience members tend to stick around to see how the scene will set up the next movie.
But for the first time in Marvel Cinematic Universe history, there will be no post-credit scene. Avengers: Endgame really does end when the credits start to roll – so as much you might hope there will be more, I’m afraid there won’t.
The news has spread on Twitter and left many Marvel fans unimpressed:
I suppose it’s for the best, really. The film has a runtime of 3 hours, 58 seconds – that alone is enough to leave you with a numb bum, it would only get worse if you had to stick around for another 10 minutes afterwards.
Plus, credit where credit is due, the Russo brothers have certainly had their work cut out for them with the epic creation of Avengers: Endgame. I think they had enough on their plate trying to perfect that film, without having to worry about setting up another.
Though, that’s not to say Endgame is really the end. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige revealed that – contrary to popular belief – the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home will close out the third phase of the MCU, rather than Avengers: Endgame.
It might feel strange to leave a Marvel film as soon as the credits start to roll, and I can almost guarantee a few hopeful fans will still stick around. But I’m sure Endgame itself will be brilliant enough to make up for the lack of the post-credits scene, so enjoy it while it lasts!
As mentioned by one viewer, don’t lament over what you don’t see, enjoy what you did – then kindly f*ck off so the theatre can be cleaned ahead of the next showing, other fans will be arriving thick and fast, don’t be selfish.
