After what feels like an eternity of waiting, the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame has finally been released.

Yes, it’s finally here after months of waiting and delays but we still have very little idea what the film’s about but boy oh boy do things look bleak for Earth’s mightiest heroes.

Disney and Marvel are no doubt hoping that Endgame will be even bigger than Infinity War but that’s an ambitious goal even for a film as eagerly anticipated as Avengers 4.

Infinity War was a huge hit financially, breaking numerous records, including; becoming the first superhero film to take over $2 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the fourth biggest film ever, and the biggest film of 2018.

Not only the film was widely beloved critically with critics praising Josh Brolin’s wonderful performance (Thanos did nothing wrong) and directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s ability to perfectly balance character and action.

Interestingly though while we’re sure fans will flock to the cinema to see how the Avengers will finally defeat Thanos and undo ‘The Snap’ it may not be the biggest film of 2019.

Why’s that? Well because there’s going to be some serious competition from another Disney film coming out near Christmas time.

Star Wars: Episode IX is due for release in December 2019 and is the biggest threat to Avengers 4′s box office domination, or will at least stop it being the year’s number one film.

And while the more cynical among you may suggest that fans will boycott Episode IX, like they allegedly did to Solo, in an attempt to ruin the film’s box office, let’s be real.

Episode IX is an event film, not one of Lucasfilm’s anthology movies, which will bring a close to the Skywalker saga once and for all, and that’s something that’s going to get bums in seats.

Avengers: Endgame hits theatres exactly one year on from Infinity War on April 26, 2019. Meanwhile Star Wars: Episode IX won’t land until December next year.
