Avengers: Endgame original cut was three hours long when it was first released in cinemas but two months later it’s back and this time there’s even more action to sink your teeth into.
The highly anticipated Marvel film was the long-awaited sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and as fans clamoured to be among the first to see what happened Endgame blew the previous box office opening weekend record out of the water, raking in $357.1 million in the days following its release.
The movie was a resounding success, earning an onslaught of good reviews and a score of 94 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes but despite being absolutely action-packed apparently the creators still kept some things back from the fans.
I suppose they had to draw the line somewhere, especially after the film passed the three hour mark!
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke about the unseen footage at a recent press junket for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the upcoming film which is set to bring phase three of the MCU to a close.
According to Comic Book, Feige confirmed Avengers: Endgame is heading back to the big screen for a theatrical re-release, complete with the extra footage which wasn’t included in the original.
The best news is, rather than having to wait months or even a whole year for the new Marvel material, the film will arrive ‘next weekend’.
Speaking of Endgame’s return, the Marvel Studios president said:
We are doing that. I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.
In an interview with Screen Rant at the same event, Feige dropped a few more details about the re-release, explaining the new footage will appear, in true Marvel fashion, as a post-credits scene.
He said:
[It’s] not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.
Screen Rant report the film will arrive on June 28, which is no doubt a strategic move from Marvel as that’s just days before Spider-Man: Far From Home hits cinemas on July 2.
As Far From Home takes place immediately after the events of Endgame, the re-release will be the perfect way for fans to ensure they’re fully clued up and ready to hear what happens next – though of course it also means reliving some of the emotional scenes presented in the Infinity Saga.
Let’s hope the new parts aren’t further tragedy; Tony Stark’s story is heartbreaking enough. I don’t think fans could take any more.
Presumably the unseen footage won’t change the overall story of Endgame but it will certainly be interesting for fans to see what the creators chose to leave out!
