Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly) has been given a well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while Biff has risen from his high school bully roots to become President of the United States. Amazing.
Although the trilogy was tied up nicely, with the future looking bright for both Marty and Doc, fans have never quite given up hope of one more drive in that iconic DeLorean.
Over three decades since the original Back to the Future zoomed into cinemas, fans were stoked by a photo of four core cast members, Instagrammed by Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown) and captioned ‘this was special’.
In the reunion pic, Lloyd smiled for the camera alongside former co-stars Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly), Lea Thompson (Lorraine McFly) and Thomas Wilson (Biff Tannen). Needless to say, fans were thrilled by this hop back in time.
One person shrieked:
Omg…this photo is everything! The gang back together! Those movies meant the world to me! They will forever be my number one on my top ten films…much love! Peace!
One wishful person mused:
I almost thought this was going to be a Back To The Future Announcement possibly for a Part IV which I hardly doubt now or remake or even a BTTF spinoff of maybe Doc’s life after being sent back to 1885 and stuck there. Or Doc’s life in the future.
During a question and answer session, the stars fielded questions about the potential for a fourth adventure, expressing plenty of enthusiasm.
One person said:
Come on they’ve wrecked every other franchise with bad sequels, why not this one? C’mon, we would watch it until it sucks.
However, Fox admitted co-creator Bob Gale is the ‘gatekeeper of the franchise’, and so the stars would have no power to bring about Back to the Future: Part IV, even if they wanted to.

Speaking with Phoenix New Times last month, Lloyd also spoke about the possibility of a new sequel:
I would say that it’s always possible. If they get the right script together that really could work. They don’t want to do something that’s going to come across as [disappointing].
You know sometimes sequels don’t live up the originals and it’s disappointing, and I know they don’t want that to happen. But I don’t know of any plans at the moment for them to do that.
He added:
I’d love to be in a fourth film, if they could come up with the right idea that extends the story and does it as well as the first three.
#BackToTheFuture will likely never be rebooted, since co-writer and director Robert Zemeckis, who has approval over all films in the Back to the Future franchise, has stated that he will block all attempts to remake or reboot the original film. #WhatTheFact

We have now long passed through the timeline of Back to the Future: Part II – which covered events from 2015 – and yet hover boards and self-tying shoe laces still only exist within the realm of science fiction.
Could it be high time for another instalment?
