Bam__margera/InstagramBeloved Jackass and CKY veteran, Bam Margera has penned an emotional open letter published from rehab to his fans saying the ‘party is over’.
True to form, the hand-written letter is addressed to all of us ‘c*cksuckers’ and details his battle with addiction in rehab, where he landed after a DUI arrest in January 2018.
Margera seemed to say he was more determined than ever before to end his decade-long destructive relationship with alcohol in the brave – and charmingly funny – note.
Posting a photograph of the candid letter to Instagram, Margera explained:
I have spent enough time grieving over Ryan Dunn through alcohol. I’m 39 years old, the party is over. I don’t plan on drinking anymore.
I have wasted too much time at the bar and all my friends who needed decades of help are now sober. I would like to join the sober parade.
Citing other patients’ stories of ‘horrible detox’, Bam continued:
I am sick of people always thinking I’m drunk, crazy or fucked up. So if you plan on calling me to tell me that, you can go f*ck yourself instead.
I’m not going to suck anyone’s dick to stay on Element and or prove that I am sober. I am sober.
GettyIn case you missed it, Element is the skateboard company which prints Bam’s signature decks, popularised over the years Margera has enjoyed a successful TV and skate career.
As of 2016, Margera was taken off the demonstration team for Element Skateboards. Since 2017, he effectively retired from professional skateboarding and currently has no sponsorships.
Margera did return to skating casually however, much to the delight of fans. His return resulted in a renewed partnership with Element Skateboards to celebrate the brand’s twenty-fifth anniversary when they re-released a series of ten of Bam’s most memorable deck designs.
All the while, Bam had been using alcohol as a way of coping with the loss of his friend and Jackass co-star Ryan Dunn, who was killed in a drink-driving incident in 2011.
Bam has cited the birth of his child with wife, Nicole Boyd, who he married in 2013 in Reykjavík, as a source of inspiration to him to get sober.
The couple’s first child Phoenix Wolf was born on December 23, 2017.
But in August 2018, the same month he was able to go home from rehab, his newfound sobriety seemingly came to an end after he was robbed in Cartagena, Colombia.
Since, Bam has regularly shared updates on social media, adding writing is one of his only solaces in rehab.
In another note he shared to Instagram from rehab, Bam revealed he is finding it very hard to be away from his family and other loved ones and to not be able to communicate with them.
He wrote:
I don’t do well with not being allowed to facetime my wife and kid. I don’t do well with not being able to answer important calls with important people.
The CKY founder concluded his latest letter with typical sarcastic flair, encouraging readers to go ‘Plant a tree or go bite the big one’ because ‘every day is Earth day’.
You heard it here first, kids. The alcohol-fuelled party might be over, but Bam sure isn’t. Viva la Bam!
