I would just like to take this opportunity to apologise for what I’m about to tell you, because it’s going to make you feel old as hell.
Blue’s Clues, which premiered in 1996 (told you so) with host Steve Burns and his puppy Blue, has had a revamp and is returning to our screens this year.
After a massive 13 years off-air, the reboot will have a new name, a new look, and a new host and is hoping to entertain a new generation of children.
Take a look at the trailer for Blue’s Clues and You below:
The new series is headed up by a new face, Josh, who looks set to provide the same amount of energy and enthusiasm as his predecessors if the trailer’s anything to go by.
Broadway actor Josh – or Joshua Dela Cruz, if we’re being formal – has been given the thumbs up by previous host Steve, who helped in the search for the new host, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Steve explained:
I give Josh two thumbs up. He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt.
Cathy Galeota – Nickelodeon Group’s senior vice president of preschool content – agreed, stating Josh’s theatre background (Aladdin, Here Lies Love, and Encores!: Merrily We Roll Along) made their decision easy.
Galeota said:
From the moment we decided to make a new version of the series, we knew that so much of the energy and magic of the show comes from the host’s ability to bring preschoolers into the colourfully animated world of Blue and her friends.
Josh’s wonderful theatre background and his natural charisma checked all the boxes for us, and of course Steve’s stamp of approval only solidified our decision.
As you can see in the first look trailer, Josh will still make use of the Thinking Chair and his Handy Dandy Notebook, with friends such as Tickety Tock, Mr Salt and Mrs Pepper, Mailbox, and Magenta all returning.
Everything has been given a slight glow up though, with Josh sporting a new blue stripey jumper and different musical style, while also rocking a brand new Handy Dandy Guitar.
Blue has also been given an entirely different look, courtesy of the updated animation. Rather than a 2D figure which she was previously, the puppy will now look more lifelike thanks to CGI, ComicBook reports.
Blue’s Clues and You premiers on Nickelodeon in November.
