Daniel Craig is thought to have less than a year left to enjoy the role of James Bond and as more details about Bond 25 start to emerge a movie insider has said Lashana Lynch will be the new 007.

The 25th instalment of the franchise is set to be released in April 2020 and, although Craig will be returning to the iconic role, it will reportedly be his last chance to enjoy a Martini shaken not stirred under his current code name.

There’s been a lot of speculation as to who would become the next James Bond, with people calling for the likes of Idris Elba and Cillian Murphy, but it seems the film’s creators are keeping fans on their toes about who will make the cut for MI6.

The Mail on Sunday reports Bond 25 begins with the spy having retired in Jamaica, however spymaster M (Ralph Fiennes) calls him back in desperation to tackle a new global crisis.

The movie insider then spoke of the big twist, describing it as a ‘popcorn dropping moment’.

They claimed:

There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.

It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.

Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.

Though nothing’s been confirmed as of yet, the source certainly went into a great amount of detail and if Lashana is the new star the creators will have cleverly managed to avoid backlash from traditionalist fans who believe Bond shouldn’t be played by a woman.

The codename 007 can apply to anyone – it doesn’t meant the new actor is the new Bond. IMDb currently have the actor listed as playing a character named Nomi in the movie.

The source added ‘Lashana is absolutely brilliant’. The 31-year-old made her debut in the 2011 drama Fast Girls and has also appeared in Silent Witness and Death In Paradise.

The movie insider continued:

This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film.

There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he’s having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo.

Bond 25 is set to be released on April 3, 2020.
