Brooklyn Nine-Nine Has Started Filming New Season

The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have started filming for the new season, and fans could not be more ecstatic.

Beloved cast members shared beaming, behind-the-scenes pics on Twitter with the caption on one reading, ‘back to the 99’. They appear to be having an absolute ball as they muck about on set.

Shared through @thelonelyisland Twitter account, one photo shows Andy Samberg (Detective Jake Peralta) grinning alongside Stephanie Beatriz (Detective Rosa Diaz) and Chelsea Peretti (the work shy Gina Linetti.)

Another reunion photo shows Samberg, Terry Crews (Sergeant Terry Jeffords) and Melissa Fumero (Sergeant Amy Santiago) pulling silly faces for the camera. G’aww!

This will be the sixth season, and is due to hit our screens come 2019.

It’s strange to think this nearly wasn’t to be. Despite a passionate fanbase, Fox cancelled the show before the fifth season even wrapped up, leaving viewers in a right tizz.

Fortunately, NBC picked up the rudely discarded comedy gem following an almighty campaign by fans to keep the Emmy Award-winning sitcom on the air.

According to CNN, NBC chairman, Robert Greenblatt, made the following comments after heroically coming to Nine-Nine’s rescue:

Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home.

We’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up.

Season five ended on a cliffhanger, with the potential promotion of Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) left, frustratingly, in the air. Should Captain Holt be elevated to commissioner, there could well be some interesting changes to the show’s dynamic.

All the main cast will be returning for the 13-episode season. This is notably shorter than others seasons, sparking concerns the end could be nigh.

Cheeringly, Samberg told TVLine he doesn’t think this will be the case, stating ‘one hundred per cent no’, before adding, ‘[I’m] trying to be confident’.

Meanwhile, show co-creator, Dan Goor, recently told The Hollywood Reporter how he and the writing staff have been engaged in discussions over a potential #MeToo episode:

Those [topical episodes] are hard to do. [They] still have to feel true to what the show is and still feel funny — but still give weight to the issue and explore it in a fair way.

The Twittersphere has well and truly freaked out over this latest conclusive evidence of filming being underway; lauding the return as the answer to all their real-world problems.

The pressure is indeed on for these fine, fictional officers.

One person bellowed:

Another roared:

I CANT STOP LOOKING THANK YOU BLESS YOU LOVE YOU. [sic]

It’s fair to say this sneaky peek at the 99th Precinct has only made the upcoming season more enticing than ever. Hurry up 2019!
