Before we begin, can I get a collective ‘Nine-Nine!’ for all the fans out there who managed to get this incredible show back out of cancellation!
With that out of the way, we can officially talk about Brooklyn Nine-Nine and how amazing the show really is, not only as a vehicle for comedy, but for positivity and diversity as well.
Is there really a bad episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine? I’m willing to go on record as saying emphatically, no. But what is the best episode?
Which one stands above the shoulders of the rest as half an hour of pure, unadulterated joy?
Well, according to Ranker, it’s HalloVeen, the Halloween Heist episode from Season 5, which is hard to disagree with to be honest.
The Halloween episodes are all genuinely hilarious, and often bring about some of the best moments between both Jake and the Captain, not to mention some of the best fake-outs (Gina anyone?!)
Coming in second is Halloween II, followed by Halloween III, before the original Halloween episode filling in at number four.
It’s clear by these rankings the guys are on to a winner with this format, and let’s just be glad they’re back around for at least one more season.
This hit Golden Globe-winning series, which was said to be ending following it’s fifth season, is going to be saved thanks to the American television network, NBC.
Detective Jake Peralta, played by the hilarious and much-loved, Andy Samberg, broke the news on his social media – to the joy of fans across the globe!
Taking to Twitter in the early hours of May 12, to make the big reveal, the American actor, comedian, filmmaker and musician, wrote:
So happy to announce:
NBC IS PICKING UP BROOKLYN 99 for SEASON !!!
This kind of makes perfect sense really, considering creator Michael Schur has a long-running relationship with the network thanks to other hit comedies like The Office and The Good Place.
Fans of the show all around the world were heartbroken late last week when Fox announced they’d be dropping the cop comedy.
So happy to announce:
NBC IS PICKING UP BROOKLYN 99 for SEASON 6!!!— The Lonely Island (@thelonelyisland) May 12, 2018
The reason for the axe was said to be due to dwindling ratings. While the show received rave reviews, the ratings continuously dropped.
On average, season four was receiving around 2.9 million viewers per episode, whereas season five dropped just below this to 2.7 million.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu, Netflix and TBS were also said to be among those outlets who reached out to Universal TV after the cancellation.
A day later, a potential revival looked bleak after Hulu — which retains SVOD rights to Brooklyn — and Netflix, both passed on a potential sixth season. Hours later, NBC swooped in to renew the series for an ‘abbreviated 13-episode season’.
NBC Entertainment Chairman, Robert Greenblatt said:
Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home.
Amen to that! NINE-NINE!!
