There is no cuter looking film character in recent years than Pikachu in Pokémon Detective Pikachu.

Fluffy and extremely cuddly looking, the iconic Pokémon character has been given big bright eyes and an expressive little face. Oh, and he wears a tiny deerstalker hat because he is such a brilliant detective.

I could go on expressing how adorable I find this modern glam-up of Pikachu, voiced by none other than Ryan Reynolds, but I fear I might actually melt onto my keyboard.

Horror movie The Curse Of La Llorona features no such fuzzy critters. Instead of loveable, wisecracking companions, we are treated to a malevolent spirit in a bridal gown who is fond of pursuing and slaughtering children.

Under no circumstances would you take your little ones to go see The Curse Of La Llorona, a movie which Matthew Bond from the MailOnline has described as having ‘a generous dollop of The Exorcist‘.

Sadly, parents at the Guzzo Marché Central in Montreal, Canada, were given no choice in the matter, when a horrifying mix-up led to their kids being exposed to the grisly ghost story.

Viewers at this Pokémon Detective Pikachu screening twigged something wasn’t right when a series of inappropriately scary trailers were shown: Annabelle Comes Home, The Joker and then Chucky.

Things got even worse when the film started, without the fun, nostalgic antics the viewers were expecting. Indeed, the film began with a woman drowning a child in a stream.

Yup. The cinema had mixed up Pokémon Detective Pikachu and The Curse Of La Llorona in a slip up which will no doubt result in someone getting a firm talking to.

The whole sorry incident was tweeted by Ryan George from Screen Rant, who revealed the film was eventually switched off and the viewers led to a different theatre.

Hopefully Pikachu was able to turn their frightened tears to laughter…
