Apparently everyones’ favourite ‘comedy’ duo the Chuckle Brothers are in the running to present the next series of the Great British Bake Off.

In blood curdling news, the pair have been tipped to replace Sue Perkins and Mel Geidroyc, when the show moves to Channel 4, reports Digital Spy.

Following the revelation the now iconic show would be leaving the BBC, Mel, Sue and Mary Berry all announced they would be quitting the show.

And now Barry and Paul have chicked their hats into the ring, releasing a statement on Good Morning Britain saying:

We normally like to keep things confidential, but as this rumour is out on social media we would like to say, that we can’t deny or confirm that we have been approached to host The Bake Off!

However we do know a lot about custard creams, cakes and biscuits.

But don’t go out and buy a fake moustache just yet – bookies have placed their odds of getting the job at a cool 500/1.

This hasn’t stopped people getting pretty excited on Twitter:

Mary Berry released an emotional statement saying:

What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of 7 years of magic in a tent – The Great British Bake Off.

The Bake Off family – Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.

My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

Farewell to soggy bottoms.

Which we can only assume is a dig at Paul Hollywood – who has announced his decision to stay with Bake Off when it hits Channel 4.

I don’t know if the world is ready for Hollywood and the Chuckle Brothers to share a screen…
