HBOFirst off, I apologise if none of this article makes any sense – I’m still reeling from the latest episode of Game of Thrones and this is my one opportunity to rant about it.
What with Daenerys losing her shit, the entirety of King’s Landing getting burnt to the ground, and pretty much every character we’ve ever known and loved dying, there’s more than enough to talk about.
Primarily, Daenerys, who did an abrupt turn and killed a load of innocent people for no reason other than the fact she was a bit (okay, more than a bit) pissed off.
After Dany climbed on her last remaining dragon Drogon (RIP Viserion and Rhaegal), torching King’s Landing to the ground with everyone inside, viewers were left wondering what on earth would happen next.
Who would survive, who would take Daenerys on, and who would sit on the Iron Throne?!
Before we can have those questions answered in the last ever episode next week (sob), it’s important to go back in time – specifically to season two, where Dany saw a vision so harrowing everyone knew what it meant.
Well, they thought they knew what it meant. But, as is the case with most Game of Thrones episodes, we actually had no clue. No clue at all.
HBOWhen Daenerys was forced to travel into the House of the Undying in order to rescue her three dragons, she had some disturbing visions which gave us slight hints as to what was to come in the following seasons.
In part of the vision, Dany wanders through the throne room, which is missing its ceiling. At this point, both Daenerys and the viewer were aware that King’s Landing was clearly in some sort of trouble, but no-one knew what that actually was.
As the walls crumble around Dany as she walks through the room, we could see everything covered in a white, dust-like substance – which everyone naturally assumed was snow.
You know, snow – as in ‘winter is coming and the Night King is probably going to kill us all’ kind of snow. But as we all now know, it was never snow in the first place.
That’s because last night, it became clear that Dany herself was responsible for the destruction she saw around her way back in season two. Because she’s the one who destroyed the city.
Turns out, we didn’t really need to worry about the Night King that much (thanks Arya) because humanity was fine destroying itself all on its own.
Great work, Dany.
