Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista has said he’s on board with the idea of playing Bane in the new Batman films.

Despite what his character name might suggest, the actor has spent the last five years portraying one of the good guys in the role of Drax the Destroyer, where he helped Star Lord, Rocket, Groot and the gang defeat Ronan and later Thanos.

Admittedly Drax did have a dark side as a former criminal who expressed desires to remove people’s spines and cut their heads off but most of the time his anger came from the need to avenge his wife and daughter, so it was somewhat justified.

However, rather than simply dabbling in the world of violence, the actor has now said he’s keen to play a character who is a villain through and through.

The 50-year-old responded to a tweet in which a Batman fan had said the actor would make a good Bane, a supervillain from the Batman comics who escaped from an island prison in South America. He appeared in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, played by Tom Hardy.

The Twitter user wrote:

I saw a youtube video on who should play Batman’s Villains in the new movies I have to say @DaveBautista would be a good choice to play bane.

Bautista shared the tweet and made his enthusiasm clear, writing:

I accept!

The ‘new movies’ likely refer to the upcoming Batman trilogy from director Matt Reeves, which will kick off with the release of The Batman in 2021.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since the creators of the upcoming film decided who would be their leading man, but with Robert Pattinson now confirmed to take on the role of Bruce Wayne it will surely only be a matter of time before the rest of the cast is filled out.

The trilogy will tell the story of the protagonist during his formative years as Batman and although details about the plot are pretty much non-existent, it wouldn’t be a true superhero film if there wasn’t a villain to fight.

However, as Bane was seen being created in the 1997 film Batman and Robin, it’s unlikely the villain would appear in the trilogy about Batman’s formative years.

Bautista might be sad to hear that news but that’s not to say he couldn’t play another bad guy in the movie! I’m sure DC would be thrilled to have him on board.

Fans will just have to wait and see who gets cast alongside Pattinson!
