The Simpsons has been weirdly accurate at predicting future events. From mutant tomatoes to Facetime and the horse meat scandal, they’ve really not missed a beat – and last night’s episode was no exception.
Now, if you’re a golf fan, you’ll know that legendary golfer Arnold Palmer died last night. On that same night, Palmer was coincidentally mentioned numerous times on Sunday’s season premiere of The Simpsons.
And it’s an incredibly spooky coincidence. Or as some have said, a prediction.
While telling Marge of a prank he’s planning, Homer explains that he and Carl are going to ‘Arnold Palmer’ Lenny by shooting him with water guns full of iced tea and lemonade.
Marge doesn’t understand, so Homer tells her, ‘Arnold Palmer was a golfer’ who ‘made up this drink where it’s not a full glass of lemonade or a full glass of iced tea.’
The timing of the episode was just minutes before news of Palmer’s death was first reported.
Naturally, everyone thought the coincidence was extremely eerie:
And this isn’t the first time The Simpsons has predicted a celebrity death. The show has also inadvertently paid tribute to Prince, David Bowie, and Alan Rickman.
Is this proof that The Simpsons can predict the future? Probably not, but it would be unfair to rule it out completely…
