May the fourth be with you. And by the ‘fourth’, I mean the fourth Star Wars trilogy which is coming our way over the next few years.

The much loved sci-fi series made a comeback with The Force Awakens in 2015, followed by The Last Jedi in 2017, and although we’re still in the midst of that trilogy, Disney have a lot more in store for fans.

In a press release yesterday, the company announced their film release schedule for the upcoming years, and in among a whole host of other productions, four slots are reserved for Star Wars films.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to bring the current trilogy to a close on December 20, 2019, before the new series begins almost exactly three years later.

The first instalment, currently listed simply as ‘Untitled Star Wars’, will hit cinemas on December 16, 2022, with the sequel arriving on December 20, 2024, and the conclusion on December 18, 2026.

2026 might seem like a long time away, but there’ll certainly be plenty of stormtrooping and light saber-waving to keep us busy in the meantime!

According to The Mirror, Disney released a statement on the upcoming films, saying:

With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022.

Alongside the new Star Wars films, Disney revealed the release dates for a whole host of Avatar sequels, as well as a number of new Marvel movies. In total, their schedule was made up of around 60 films, which will take us all the way into the year 2027.

The followup to James Cameron’s Avatar has been highly anticipated pretty much since the first one came out way back in 2009, and I’m sure fans will be happy to know that not only is Avatar 2 coming in 2021, but we’ll also see Avatar 3 in 2023, Avatar 4 in 2025, and Avatar 5 in 2027.

As for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney have eight new productions in the works, and while their titles remain a mystery, you can mark your diaries for their release dates, which span from May 1, 2020, to July 29, 2022.

When it comes to satisfying film fans, Disney certainly do not disappoint – with their schedule at least…
