Fox/DisneyAs Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame continues to dominate cinemas for the time being, there are – naturally – other movies eyeing up the gap in the market that’ll be left when it’s gone.
Fortunately, for those of us who love our films either as rehashes of, or followups to, old movies, there’s plenty of established franchises ready to step into the limelight.
And now we have confirmation that, in the upcoming years, Disney have plotted out a frankly ridiculous schedule of films set to keep us entertained until kingdom come.
Disney recently sent out a list of around 60 films that’ll take us into the year 2027, which seems to confirm what we had long expected – Star Wars will go beyond The Rise of Skywalker, Marvel still has a lot in store for us, and we’ll finally be getting the long-awaited sequels to Avatar.
Also – it looks like there’ll be a Bob’s Burgers movie!
The followup to James Cameron’s Avatar has been highly anticipated pretty much since the first one came out way back in 2009. And while we may have already waited a decade to see those blue-skinned boyos again, it seems we’ve only got two years to wait now, as the sequel is set to hit cinemas on December 17, 2021.
If you think 12 years is a long time to wait for a sequel, it was originally going to be 13, but luckily for us they’ve pulled it forward. Like buses, it seems you wait ages for Cameron to release a sequel and suddenly four come at once, as not only is Avatar 2 coming in 2021, but we’ll also see Avatar 3 in 2023, Avatar 4 in 2025, and Avatar 5 in 2027.
Jedi fans will be happy too, as – after the already announced Rise of Skywalker – there’ll be three, as-yet-untitled Star Wars films released on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year, starting in 2022.

This means the studio is planning to alternate Star Wars and Avatar films every year from 2021 to 2027.
There’s also an upcoming adaptation of West Side Story from Steven Spielberg in 2020, while an origin story of Cruella de Vil, called Cruella, and starring Emma Stone, will launch the same year.
Following the juggernaut that was Avengers: Endgame, we’ve not seen the last of the MCU either, as phase four is set to kick in in the next couple of years. There’s also a new X-Men film called The New Mutants set for 2020, while Sophie Turner‘s Dark Phoenix is hitting screens later this year.
