Eastenders fans were outraged and hysterical after Jean had the most British reaction to Alfie’s death.
Last night’s episode showed Jean stepping over Alfie’s ‘dead body’ to serve tea and crumpets to the others in the room.
At that point in the programme, the Slater family believed Alfie had died after falling down the stairs at home.
They had moved him to the living room so no one could see him and covered his body with a Santa outfit.
Jean, wearing tinsel in her hair, didn’t seem particularly bothered about his corpse however and she continued to hand food out to her family.
She exclaimed to the room:
There’s never not a good time for a cup of tea!
We knew Alfie was alive!!! Ridiculous yet brilliant episode. Everytime Jean spoke it was very funny. Tea and crumpets?? 😂#eastenders

Her strangely incongruous observation didn’t go unnoticed by the public, who took to Twitter discuss Jeans relentless hosting skills.

Jean Slater has the best line of 2018 with “there’s never not a good time for a cup of tea” priceless #EastEnders hats off to the writers on that one, nice one ☕️ ☕️

In the show, Alfie (played by Shane Richie) was feared dead after hitting his head on a wooden skirting board after he was pushed down the stairs by the mother of his child, Hayley Slater.
A Christmas Day cliffhanger saw him lay in the lounge, with his family delaying to call an ambulance to give themselves time to concoct a cover-up.
However, during their thinking time, Alfie had time to regain consciousness, snatch his child from her crib, and escape the house.
Jean handing out tea and crumpets over Alfie's bleeding corpse in the middle of the floor is the definition of "keep calm and drink tea". #EastEnders

The only thing that could have made the reaction more British is if it were scones.
It’s the ultimate show of British stoicism.
