We can all agree on two things about the latest series of Game of Thrones. Firstly, it was brilliant and secondly Ed Sheeran’s cameo was shit.

The singer-songwriter made a brief cameo in the first episode of the seventh series, ‘Dragonstone’, and it was immediately mocked by fans.

There were even rumours that this led Ed Sheeran to delete his Twitter account, which he of course denied.

This tweet summed up the shark jumpingly awful cameo:

Course you did, Ed.

Ed played an unnamed Lannister soldier who sang around a campfire, a cameo given to him because Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams is a big fan.

Luckily for fans of the show Ed reckons his character isn’t going to ever come back.

Speaking to MTV News, Ed said:

Nah, I’ve done it now. No one wants to see me come back. I wanted a cameo in it, and I’ve done the cameo. I’m cool with it, though. I enjoyed it.

I doubt I’m going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world.

Director Matt Shakman previously did not specifically confirm Ed’s character was at the surprise dragon ambush Daenerys dropped on the Lannister troops.

But he explained how Sheeran’s appearance, along with the other Lannister infantrymen, in the first episode, helped with the climatic ending of the fourth episode.

Director Shakman said:

I think the earlier scene that was so great with Arya meeting those Lannister soldiers, where we humanise what those Lannisters are like, that they’re generous with her, only helps this sequence because it helps you feel for the men who are shaking in terror as their death is upon them.

Ed, you may have enjoyed it but we certainly didn’t and so are incredibly thankful for this news.

Now get back to doing what you are good at – singing.
