HBOThe second episode of the much awaited final season of Game of Thrones aired earlier today (April 22), and people were not disappointed.
Despite the drama of the Battle of Winterfell yet to unfold, viewers had plenty to get their teeth into. Ahem, Arya and Gendry.
Aside from that development fans of the HBO fantasy series were also able to witness Daenerys, aka Emilia Clarke, find out Jon Snow is her nephew. Yikes.
While Jon, aka Kit Harington, appeared devastated when he revealed his true parentage to Daenerys, the Dragon Queen seemed more upset about his superior claim to the Iron Throne.
Standing next to a statue of his mother, Lyanna Stark, Jon told the woman he loves he’s actually the secret son of Prince Rhaegar and the true heir to the Seven Kingdoms.
Clarke’s character said in episode 2:
If it were true, it would make you the last male heir of House Targaryen. You’d have a claim to the Iron Throne.
HBOOh, y’know Daenerys, don’t mind the fact that you’ve actually been sleeping with your nephew. Just as long as you get the important topics sorted out.
Emilia Clarke has since explained her character’s fairly brutal response, saying Daenerys focusing on the threat to her rule of the Seven Kingdoms actually makes perfect sense given her personal and family history.
Clarke told Entertainment Weekly:
The related thing, to her, is so normal. She could have easily married her brother. It’s not a thing. It’s a thing for Jon, but let’s just forget about that. The main thing is we’re up for the same promotion and I’ve been working for it for my entire existence.
This is my whole existence. Since birth! Dany literally was brought into this world going: RUN! These f*ckers have f*cked everything up. Now it’s, ‘You’re our only hope.’
There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify. There’s so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt to get here… and Jon doesn’t even want it!
Just as the conversation was getting heated though, they were interrupted by a horn announcing that the Army of the Dead is now at the gates of Winterfell.
In other words, the biggest battle in TV history is about to commence and we have to wait an entire week to see what happens.
