Fan Watches Avengers: Endgame 116 Times In Quest For World Record

I think it was about one hour 20 minutes into the film before I needed the toilet. But I did drink a large coffee before I went in so it’s my own fault really.

Agustin Alanis, however, has sat through not one, not two, but 116 viewings of Avengers: Endgame (which is over three hours long) without ever needing to nip out for a slash.

Of course, he’s not doing it just to prove he’s got a strong bladder, he’s doing it because he loves the film. Oh yeah, and he also wants the Guinness World Record for ‘most cinema productions attended – same film’.

Alanis says his goal is 200 viewings, or as close to that number as possible, and this week saw him sit down and watch for the 116th time.

Agustin told CNet:

I wasn’t planning to try and break [the world record] to begin with.

But I had watched it every day since it came out for two weeks, and just like the movie shattered records, I decided to do it as well.

Luckily, the 30-year-old was already a big Marvel fan, and says he regularly watches 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier at home, so knew he could withstand the repetition of numerous Endgame viewings.

It seems the mammoth task hasn’t inspired Agustin to do it with more films though, as he said: ‘I don’t think I would try it with another movie.’

The film was released in the US on April 26 this year. So, for the mathematicians among us, that’s around 50 days ago, depending when you’re reading this. Which means Agustin has watched the three-hour film at least twice a day for nearly two months, sometimes three times a day.

He’s so far clocked up 348 hours watching Endgame, and if he makes it to 200 it’ll be over 600 hours. I’m tired just thinking about it.

The 30-year-old added:

My friends and family have been very supportive. My parents and younger sister came with me when I reached 100 views.

[I] can’t be sick of it. I do recite [the lines] in my mind, and sometimes out loud when there’s no one sitting next to me.

Seeing the film so many times, Agustin must be an expert on it by now. So does he think the film got everything right?

As he said (*spoiler alert*):

To end the infinity saga, Iron Man had to die saving everyone. That was his purpose and his fate, so no, I wouldn’t change it.

The current record for ‘most cinema productions – same film’ is currently held by Tony ‘Nem’ Mitchell, who watched Avengers: Infinity War 103 times last year, and got invited to the Endgame premiere as a result.

Agustin is currently waiting to hear back from Guinness regarding his world record quest.
