A fake Friends movie trailer has conned fans across the world and, to be honest fellas, I’m pretty vexed about it.
The trailer had previously done the rounds in 2014/15, if my memory serves me correctly, and appears to have gotten a second wind in time with Netflix’s rollout of the smash 90s show.
The trailer, comprised of scattered footage from Episodes, Cougar Town, Web Therapy and an actual Jimmy Kimmel sketch, has managed to trick fans into believing their dreams have come true.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’d think die-hard fans would be able to call BS on a compilation of clips from random TV shows, the Golden Globes, and films.
Also, on a side note, who would want this to be true? The trailer is absolute torture.
Some weren’t so easily lead, and vented their anger at the gall of it.
One wrote:
Cruel and unnecessary. I was really hoping this was real.
Another said:
Dude, I know a parody when I see one. This, is not parody. It’s a clickbate [sic] meant to prank all the poor ‘friends’ fans into thinking that the movie was actually coming and meant to be real. That’s just rude, man. I’m disliking and i’m not reporting this video, but man making this fake-trailer was just f*ckin’ rude of you.
Others didn’t quite know how they felt:
You know, I kind of hate you (that is, the brains behind this channel) but I also kind of love you because you gave me the briefest hope this was legit. So thank you, I guess.
Despite constant calls for a reunion it seems the cast are nowhere near getting back together for the big screen.
Jennifer Aniston told Lorraine Kelly in 2016:
Honestly I don’t know what we would do, I think that period of time was nostalgic, our faces weren’t stuffed into cell phones, we weren’t checking Facebook and Instagram, we were in a room together, we were in a coffee shop talking, having conversations, we have lost that.
Similarly in 2015, Courtney Cox told Yahoo:
Dear Lord, let it go people. We’re not doing it! It’s just not going to happen.
We’ve not really had a Friends reunion. We’ve gotten about 80 epr cent there, but there’s always one person who flaked at the end. I’m not going to name names, but it may not be Schwimmer.
So it’s all Ross’ fault. Cheek of it.
