Christmas has come early in the shape of a Deadpool trailer wrapped in glorious Christmas glitter and finished with a hilarious bow.

Yeah, that metaphor got away from us. Anyway, after a few weeks of teasing Fox have finally dropped the first trailer for Once Upon A Deadpool.

Once Upon A Deadpool will be a heavily-edited version of Deadpool 2 aimed at kids who are too young to enjoy The Merc With A Mouth’s more adult adventures.

Check out the first fantastically funny trailer here:

According to Fox this festive treat will be edited down to PG-13 (roughly a 12A here in the UK) and will feature never-before-seen footage which was cut from Deadpool 2.

Paul Wernick, the Deadpool 2 co-writer told /Film

We definitely shot new stuff. And recently too. After Deadpool 2 came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool.’

We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio. They said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. Fire up the cameras.’

Even more exciting though is the film’s framing device, which will recreate the iconic opening to The Princess Bride with Fred Savage returning to hear a brand new exciting story/ recycled nonsense from the cutting room floor.

Unfortunately for Fred; it’s not the lovely Peter Falk reading the story it’s Deadpool, he’s been kidnapped, and rather than hearing about the Dread Pirate Roberts he’s being forced to listen to Wade Wilson’s ramblings.

Judging by this trailer though, to make up for the film toning down the gore and violence the writers have upped the jokes because this trailer looks incredibly funny.

My personal favourite joke has got to be Fred Savage taking a shot at Deadpool’s dubious Marvel credentials or as he himself puts it: ‘Marvel licensed by Fox which is like if the Beatles were produced by Nickelback. It’s music but it sucks.’

Not even Wade’s healing factor can recover from a burn that bad.

The man beneath the iconic red and black mask, Ryan Reynolds has long resisted making a PG-3 cut of Deadpool after being burned by Wolverine Origins.

The only way Fox could convince him to do the film was by agreeing to donate a proportion of receipts to Reynold’s charity, the F*ck Cancer organization.

Reynolds told Deadline

Because it’s the season of giving, we will also be giving $1 for every ticket sold to F-ck Cancer, which will be renamed Fudge Cancer just for this limited-time ad campaign. Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006.

I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…

So why not donate to a good cause this festive season by enjoying Once Upon A Deadpool.

Once Upon A Deadpool arrives in UK cinemas – for one night only – on December 11th.
