Our watch has nearly ended, and for the sake of Game Of Thrones producers and cast the final episode tomorrow night best be a show to remember.

For eight seasons we have stood by the HBO hit, telling anyone with the gall to have done anything else with their free time that they ‘really should’ give it a go – ‘or maybe try the books’.

Alas, it is too late for some, if the jump on the bandwagon now they are joining at the show’s most heavily criticised juncture.

HBO

That criticism has come thick and fast during season eight, and it isn’t surprising. You can’t please all of the people all of the time. However for one pocket of fandom you can’t please any of them, with anything, ever.

Demands have been made – yes, demands – that season eight be remade entirely, with writers who are ‘competent’. So strong is the sentiment that a petition has been created. Which is kind of cute really in its futility.

Someone who thinks it isn’t so cute is Jacob Anderson, aka Grey Worm. In an appearance on Strahan And Sara he had this to say about the online petition:

Anderson told the hosts:

I think it’s rude.

Obviously, the show feels to people like it belongs to them. That’s really good – I think it’s really important when people take something into their heart and it means something to them.

However, it doesn’t. I just mean that in the sense that I was there and the crew, in particular, are like the hardest working people I’ve ever met. I think to trivialise their work in that way – I find it quite sad.

HBO

Sad, perhaps, but there is no escaping the general consensus that GOT’s final season has been a bit of a damp squib.

After years of preamble and foreboding, the Night King was taken care of the first time he entered a battlefield proper. Cersei spent five episodes glancing from a balcony, before being crushed by the Red Keep. Cleganebowl lasted all of five minutes (it may even have been less). Missandei got the chop and Daenerys used dragon fire to work through her complex feelings.

Even when you give credit to the storylines the extended episodes but shortened season is just not resonating with fans the way previous have.

It will all come to a head tomorrow though:

So like it or lump it, the end is nigh.
