HBO / Sky AtlanticIt’s been confirmed that Game Of Thrones’ eighth and final season will be just six episodes long.
‘Seven Hells’, we’re not close to starting season seven of the epic fantasy saga. Despite this, GoT showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have already confirmed that season eight, which will be the last one, will run for six episodes at this year’s SXSW Festival.
This is how we feel right now.
Speaking in Austin, Texas, Beinoff and Weiss added that not only will it run for six-episodes but they’ll also be splitting writing duties with two other writers.
Speaking at the festival Benioff said:
We have two other writers on the staff, Brian Cogman and Dave Hill. The four of us get together in a room, we break down the upcoming season, then we split up and write different sections of the outline.
We have the last one we’ll ever do, for Season eight, which is a little sad, so we have an 140 page outline for … it’s only gonna be six episodes for the final season, then we divvy up the episodes.
Dave Hill will write the season premiere, Brian Cogman will write 802 and then we’ll write the other four…
Getty UKHe jokingly added that he and Weiss were fighting over who gets to write Sansa Stark’s death, with Weiss chiming in that they “both wanted to kill Sansa so bad.”
We’d say they’re trolling, but as you know in Game Of Thrones they’ll kill anyone off if it either suits the story, the writers are having a bad day or they just want to look at you’re dumbfounded, heartbroken faces for shits and giggles.
In other Game Of Thrones news we’ve also learnt that everyone’s favourite ginger-singer (no, not Mick Hucknall) Ed Sheeran will be making a guest appearance in the upcoming season. What role will he play, who knows? But we can honestly say we’re very keen to see how he’ll die (in the show that is).

He won’t be the first musician that’s appeared on Game Of Thrones, Coldplay’s Will Champion was one of the extras at the infamous Red Wedding scene – further confirming that Coldplay like to kill anything that we love. Icelandic folk group Of Monsters And Men and metal band Mastadon have also cameoed.
Musicians have also played integral roles in the show, notably Jerome Flynn, of Robson & Jerome (ask your mum about that one), who plays the lovable sell-sword Bronn.
Singer-songwriter Raleigh Ritchie, who plays Greyworm, the general of Daenerys Targaryen’s Unsullied Warriors, recently featured in Stormzy’s debut album Gang Signs & Prayers.

The England football team will have probably won The World Cup by the time he puts that book out. So never basically.
Game Of Thrones season seven is set to premier on HBO and Sky Atlantic on July 16.
