As you should by now be aware, we have made it through The Long Night and the Battle of Winterfell is (I think) well and truly over.

That’s because (spoiler alert!) Arya got up in the Night King’s guts with a hot piece of Valyrian Steel, absolutely destroying him and his Army of the Dead in the process.

As has been pointed out, this was – possibly – Bran’s intention all along. The weapon Arya used to kill the Night King was the same dagger an assassin used to try and kill Bran. The assassin was sent by Littlefinger. In season seven, Bran gets the dagger back off Littlefinger and gives it to Arya – presumably, because he’s the ol’ Three-Eyed Raven, he knows Arya will use it at the right time. And she did.

While many of us are still trying to get our heads round the recent episode, and all the moments leading up to the Night King’s death (anyone else kinda going to miss that guy? bae), there are a few details that have got some people thinking.

For some time now, there’s been a convincing theory that Bran Stark is the Night King. They looked pretty similar and were never in the same room together, but also the whole being able to see into the past/future/warging thing etc. It seems that theory was put to bed when our king bae White Walker died and Bran didn’t, though.

However, some people still reckon Bran is pretty evil. For one, where did Bran warg to when Theon and his band of merry men were standing around him? He was gone for pretty long.

As one Redditor put it:

I think there’s more going on then what meets the eye. Why else was Bran warged for so long?

Could it be going back in time to prevent all this bloodshed? Could he have been making a deal with The Night King?

When The Night King walked up to Bran, he looked like he accepted his fate. I just feel like The Night King is Bran, The Night King was going to kill Bran to destroy himself. I mean the way The Night King just looked at Bran, it felt like he had to do it when he didn’t want to.

Arya ruined the plans for Bran. After all this and then they’re already going to battle with Cersei? Something just doesn’t feel right

They’ve got a point, especially as it was hard to read the vibes between Bran and King Ice Ice Baby as they met.

Also, going with the whole evil Bran thing, why did he get Theon to protect him? Theon’s gone through a hell of a lot, true, but he’s not exactly the bravest guy in Winterfell.

With only a handful of guys with him, was he really the best choice to protect Bran? It seems Bran wasn’t really upset when he let Theon run to his death, merely saying ‘You’re a good man, Theon’. (He is a good man though, to be fair). Perhaps it was his plan all along to let Theon and his men die, meaning there’d be no witnesses for what would then go down between Bran and the Ice Man (when he cometh).

It would definitely be an interesting twist if Bran’s storyline took an even darker turn from here, just as we thought we’d made it through the Long Night…
