Season eight of Game of Thrones will no doubt be one of the biggest television spectacles of the decade.

But during season seven, HBO was leakier than Yara’s ship than after Euron absolutely blew it to bits.

To try and stop any scripts or info leaking before the show airs, HBO have elected to shoot multiple endings to throw people off the scent.

It’s quite a shrewd move, and means that everybody on set will be as flummoxed about the true ending to the season as everyone else. When it comes round, eventually.

This was confirmed by Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, according to The Morning Call.

He said:

I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multipled versions so that nobody really knows what happens.

He continued:

You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know.

So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.

This makes Game of Thrones the latest in a long line of hyped TV shows to shoot multiple endings to throw off those pesky leaks.

Other famous shows to opt for the fake-outs include Breaking Bad, Seinfeld and The Sopranos.

Let’s just hope the Game of Thrones showrunners don’t cut out halfway through a scene like The Sopranos.

Though at this point it’s hard to imagine an ending to the show which satisfies everybody with the amount of hype they’ve built up.
