Game of Thrones producers have let slip that they are already thinking about potential spin-off series’ for the hit show.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have only 13 more episodes to complete seasons seven and eight, so it’s good to know they have one eye on the future.

Their revelation was made by the pair on the UFC Unfiltered podcast of all places.

The pair said:

One of the great things about what George R.R. Martin did is that he didn’t just build a story, he built a world.

There are so many characters and such a rich, detailed history behind it that there are a lot of different ways you could go with it.

We just haven’t had time to really think through the details of it, because we’re so focused on just getting the show made.

This is such a 24-hour job. Once we start thinking about any spin-off, we realise we have other things that are immediately pressing that we need to be thinking about.

So the idea is there, but which characters would fans want to see star?

Robert’s rebellion would make a pretty obvious candidate.

We’ve already been introduced to a younger Ned after all!

The series could also be based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg.

This would be set around 90 years before the current show and could lead nicely into the story of Robert’s Rebellion and then GOT fans could have two spin-offs!

Maybe I’m being greedy…

Alternatively, but presumably with George R.R’s consent, the producers could continue off book into the future.

There is Gendry, Brienne of Tarth, Lyanna Mormont – all fan favourites for a time, and not killed off yet!

But, as Benioff and Weiss already suggested, it is probably best they focus on a satisfying but credible ending to the current show as a priority.
