Aidan Gillen, who plays Petry Baelish (aka Littlefinger) has been added to the cast of BBC’s Peaky Blinders for season four.
Gillen joins an already illustrious cast along with newcomers Adrien Brody and Charlie Murphy and mainstays Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy.
The news was broken by Deadline however there hasn’t been an indication as to who the Game of Thrones star will be playing. One possible theory is that he could be playing an Irish protagonist.
If so it would not be the first time Murphy’s Tommy Shelby has come to blows with an Irish contingency .
It’s also believed that Charlotte Riley will be making her return to the popular period-gangster drama as Tommy’s former love interest May Carleton.
Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight, has praised his season four dream team saying:
Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen and Charlie Murphy give us a wealth of talent to work with. And with Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley returning, we couldn’t have hoped for more.
It seems fitting that ‘Littlefinger’ would feature on a show such as Peaky Blinders, after all both his character and Shelby’s criminal mob are a bunch of scheming wrong’uns.
Birds of a feather will flock together I guess.
Filming for season four of Peaky Blinders has already begun while we can expect Adien Gillen to return to our screens this July for Game Of Thrones season seven.
