Winter is here, and it is set to be revealed in the summer of 2017…
That’s right, GOT producers have finally revealed when fans can expect to view the seven-episode seventh series of the hit HBO show.
One filming location in particular says a lot about the kind of action viewers can expect too.
As reported by Variety, Casey Bloy, HBO’s programming chief said:
Now that winter has arrived on ‘Game of Thrones,’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing.
Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.
And the home of Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson -AKA The Mountain- Iceland, looks set to be utilised as a chilly backdrop.
An Icelandic news publication has confirmed that HBO have met with locals to discuss the possibility, with it suggested filming could take place in January.
So with the icy setting being touted, fans should probably prepare to see plenty more of The Night’s King and his undead army…
As pointed out by Watchers on the Wall, nothing is set in stone but the island nation has been used previously by the hit show.
PixabayThey also speculate on the characters who are likely to film in the land of giants, with Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, Littlefinger, Tormund, Ser Davos all based in Winterfell, Bran and Meera heading south to the wall, plus Sandor Clegane, Brienne of Tarth, and Arya all thought to be heading North.
And of course, the White Walkers are looking to make it beyond the wall into the realm of men.
So come season seven, Winter being ‘here’ looks set to cease being a soundbite only…
And should any battle scenes need their audio beefing up, producers won’t even have to do it solely in a studio. They can just ask residents to repeat their impressive Viking war chant that swept Euro 2016.
