I watched Game of Thrones first thing this morning and I still haven’t got my breath back. If I had a Fitbit on it would be telling me what a great job I’d just done.

Honestly, the image of me sat in my pants, heart pumping away in front of the screen, is one nobody should have to endure. It’s almost as shocking as the events of The Long Night that saw the living finally overcome the dead.

Watch a little preview if it hasn’t already burnt into your memory forever:

From the moment the Red Woman lit up the Dothraki arakhs to the sky-bound dragon dogfight, via the littlest Mormont taking on a wight giant, to Ser Jorah Mormont forever friendzoned defending his Khaleesi, to the most satisfying stabbing in the history of the Seven Kingdoms, The Long Night was as traumatic for audiences as it was for the stars who made it happen.

Okay, that’s probably a bit of an overstatement, but it’s the most sweat I’ve put up in a screen-bound situation I’m ever going to be comfortable talking to people on the internet about.

Turns out I’m not alone, as viewers of the latest instalment of Game of Thrones discovered their Fitbits recorded their viewing sessions like it was a cardio session at the gym.

Twitter users noted their Fitbits tracked their heart rates entering a fat burn zone of 100bpm as our favourite characters battled for their lives and the continuation of life in Westeros.

Honestly, I’d take watching this episode over a trip to the gym any day.

Can you even imagine what it would have been like for the actors and crew members that put those scenes together?

Well you don’t have to imagine because cast members spoke previously to Entertainment Weekly about the epic Battle of Winterfell scene, which took a staggering 55 nights to film.

Iain Glenn, who plays Ser Jorah Mormont, said:

It was the most unpleasant experience I’ve had on Thrones – a real test, really miserable.

You get to sleep at seven in the morning and when you wake in the midday you’re still so spent you can’t really do anything, and then you’re back. You have no life outside it.

You have an absolute f*cked bunch of actors. But without getting too method [acting] about it, on screen it bleeds through to the reality of the Thrones world.

While Rory McCann, aka The Hound, said:

Everybody prays they never have to do this again.

I’d say I don’t think I could go through watching that again, but it’s exactly what I’m doing at the end of this shift.

But for all our efforts sitting in suspense and excitement, let’s spare a thought for those involved for making it happen.

RIP Ser Jorah.
