Get ready to hear another killer soundtrack, because Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is set to begin filming next year.
Now that all the Endgame action is over and done with, it’s time for the Guardians to get back out into the universe and embark on some more adventures.
Hopefully Groot will have grown out of his moody teen phase in the next instalment! Maybe he’ll have reached his 20s by then, and will leave the group behind to travel and ‘find himself’?
Either way, he’s set to be back along with the rest of the gang; Peter Quill – aka Star Lord – Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora and Mantis.
Minor Endgame spoiler ahead!
There’s no word on whether the God of Thunder will join the team, despite Thor’s quip about becoming the ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy’ in Endgame, but it would certainly be fun to see some more of his competitive back-and-forth with Quill.
Marvel did release a comic book titled Asgardians of the Galaxy last year, so the cross-over might not be completely out of the question, though the gang in the comic was made up of other characters such as Thor’s sister Angela, and the Asgardian warrior Valkyrie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is one of a few upcoming Marvel productions, including Eternals, led by Angelina Jolie, and Shang-Chi, which is centered on an Asian hero.
The third instalment of the witty series is planned for a 2020 shoot, with James Gunn, who was behind the first two movies, back on board as director.
In 2018, Gunn was fired by Disney after some offensive old tweets resurfaced.
As per The Guardian, the director said at the time:
My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative.
I have regretted them for many years since – not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.
Following his removal from the project, stars from Guardians of the Galaxy showed their support for Gunn. Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt all rallied around their former co-worker, as did Dave Bautista, who claimed he wouldn’t return unless Gunn was reinstated.
In March, Deadline confirmed that the director had been re-hired by the company.
Let’s hope the third movie – and its soundtrack – will be as good as the first two!
