A hacker has released season five of Orange Is The New Black onto the web after Netflix refused to pay a ransom to the cyber-criminals.

The streaming service was planning on releasing the popular prison drama’s fifth season on June 9 but now the first 10 episodes have allegedly been shared on The Pirate Bay by a hacker known as ‘thedarkoverlord’, Variety reports.

Thedarkoverlord, who’s a strong contender for the edgiest name on the Internet, allegedly attempted to extort money out of Netflix. Although the exact sum is currently unknown we’re guessing it was probably enough to buy a lifetime supply of Mountain Dew and Doritos.

In possibly one of the cringiest statements I’ve ever read – honestly Skeletor from He-Man wasn’t this over dramatic and he was an eighties cartoon villain – thedarkoverlord ranted about Netflix’s refusal to cow to his demands.

He said:

It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was. We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves.

The hacker who also claims to have stolen other popular shows from other networks finished his cartoonish monologue by telling the other networks that ‘there’s still time to save yourselves’ and that his offer is still on the table – for now.

It’d be scary if the plan wasn’t so laughable.

Netflix have commented on thedarkoverlord’s attempt to blackmail them but they seem pretty nonplussed about the situation to be honest.

They said:

We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.

It’s worth pointing out that people aren’t likely to unsubscribe from Netflix just because they can get season five for free on Pirate Bay s it’s not like their pockets are going to be hurt in anyway.

Netflix renewed Orange Is The New Black last year for another two seasons after the fifth.
