After the success of the 2018 reboot, it’s not surprising to hear another Halloween followup is reportedly in the works.

2018’s Halloween was a hit with fans, who had previously been left rather disappointed by a string of sub-par sequels. Earning $255 million at the box office from just a $10 million budget, it’s easy to see why Universal are giving Blumhouse another crack at it.

Halloween 2 is said to start shooting early next year, with a release date of October 16, 2020.

According to Collider, Jamie Lee Curtis is all but confirmed to pick up her role as Laurie Strode once again, while Judy Greer and Andi Matichak are also slated to resume their roles as Laurie’s daughter and granddaughter, respectively. Not many others survived the last film, so we can be sure to expect a new cast (or group of victims) for the franchise.

David Gordon Green will also reportedly be returning to pen the script and direct.

While there’s been no official word from Blumhouse about the project just yet, Universal have said there’s an untitled Blumhouse film scheduled for release in October 2020. While founder Jason Blum recently tweeted a picture of himself with Jamie Lee Curtis – she was holding a figure of herself, while he captioned it: ‘We’re discussing stuff.’

Blum has previously spoken about how he would ‘100 per cent’ like to do more Halloween films, while Curtis said she’s up for it too, if it was to happen.

The actor told EW:

I’d be happy to do it, sure.

This was an extraordinary experience. David was a fantastic director, writer, but obviously this 2018, 40th anniversary, was Laurie’s story, and obviously there are now other people’s stories that would need to get told.

But Laurie’s story was told beautifully this year, and I would have no way of knowing how they would incorporate her into future.

The original Halloween, from 1978, was directed by John Carpenter, who wrote it alongside Debra Hill. It was the first time we saw the iconic masked murderer Michael Myers, who returns to his hometown 15 years after murdering his own sister on Halloween night.

Jamie Lee Curtis starred as Laurie Strode, a teenager in the town who gets caught in the middle of Myers’ Halloween night madness. Curtis starred in a number of sequels in the franchise, including 1981’s Halloween II, 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch, 1988’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection.
