The Hollywood rumour mill has been wildly speculating about prospective cameos in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.
But none of the whispers have fans salivating more than the thought of Wolverine joining the Merc with the Mouth for Deadpool 2: Back In The Pool, to create some fourth-wall smashing comedic carnage.
Apparently Ryan Reynolds is just as desperate as we are to see the Marvel mutants unite, if this UNILAD Film interview is anything to go by:
According to Hugh Jackman, Reynolds – who produced the original Deadpool labour of love – has been literally hammering down his door, presumably playing Wham!’s Careless Whisper in an attempt to woo Wolverine.
Speaking to UNILAD Film in a Facebook live stream, Jackman was asked – again – if he would be opposed to playing a cameo part in Deadpool.
Smiling, Jackman replied:
I have had that question a lot… Ryan Reynolds is literally camped outside my house right now. He’s not very good at hearing the word ‘no’.
Jackman concluded, ‘No mate, it’s time for me to move on’, and at that moment the world could audibly hear Reynold’s heart breaking.
Fans weren’t satisfied though, and in lieu of a fictitious fisticuffs, one commentator asked Jackman who would win in a fight between him and Reynolds.
Dubbing Ryan ‘about the funniest man’ he knows, Hugh said:
I literally cry tears, we get on with each other really well and we hang out. I think I would laugh. I would find it really difficult to have a serious fight with him.
He’d punch me, I’d get pissed off, I’d punch him and then he’d say something and I would just laugh. I don’t know if we’d get a result.
Jackman has played Wolverine for 17 years. He spoke fondly of the franchise, saying, ‘It’s part of me and it’s part of my life… I feel like this is finally the best version of the character and it’s taken me 17 years to get there.’
Jackman added:
But I knew two years ago that it was time for me to leave the party – I think it’s a very good skill to know when to leave the party… Undoubtedly the best party of my life.
I love this character so much, and the fans.
While Jackman might be hanging up Wolverine’s bladed knuckles, it’s by no means the last we’ll see of the Australian 48-year-old.
The Hollywood actor is looking forward to more film projects and pursuing theatre acting.
He even said he’d be keen to play the next Bond, throwing his towel into the ring against the likes of Tom Hardy.
