The Inbetweeners are back.
Well, two of them.
One half of the stars of megahit The Inbetweeners are heading into a brand new sitcom together. And while the foursome vowed never to return after releasing their movie sequel, Joe Thomas aka unlucky-in-love Simon, and James Buckley, aka foul-mouthed Jay, will star in an upcoming show written by the E4 comedy’s co-creator Damon Beasley.
Details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but James, 28, told The Sun: “We’ll be filming towards the end of the year. It’s going to be set in Essex in the Eighties.”
Apart from their upcoming new show, Joe previously appeared in Channel 4’s Fresh Meat while James played a young Del Boy in the BBC’s Only Fools And Horses prequel Rock And Chips. Other than that, they’ve just been doing their own thing because, let’s face it, The Inbetweeners kind of set them up for life.
As one of the biggest comedy success stories of the past decade, the E4 sitcom spanned three series and two movies that raked in millions. The first Inbetweeners movie alone grossed in around £60 million worldwide while the sequel made £44 million. Not a bad paycheque.
But Simon Bird, who played Will, previously said: “There is no third film.”
So it looks like this is the best we’re going to get in terms of an Inbetweeners return.
