With less than four months to go until It: Chapter Two‘s release, the suspense is only growing with pretty much everyone wondering whether it will live up to the first.

It seems we can breath a sigh of relief though, because the writer of the film has now confirmed Chapter Two will be both bloodier and scarier than its prequel. As if that’s possible.

You can watch the trailer for the spooktacular film below (if you dare):

With the 2017 adaptation of the popular Stephen King novel being such a huge hit, the sequel was always likely to follow a similar gory aesthetic.

Continuing the adaption of the book, the second chapter will be set in 2016 – 27 years after the events of the first film – and will see the return of Bill Skarsgård as the horrifying clown Pennywise.

The new, grown-up cast will feature Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, and Bill Hader as Richie Tozier.

Anyone who believes an older cast means fewer scares is about to be proven wrong though, as writer Gary Dauberman has confirmed Chapter Two has more blood and scares than the last film.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dauberman confirmed the film is:

Definitely bloodier than the first and it is just as scary, if not scarier. The two movies feel like a complete whole. This feels like a natural progression and extension of the first.

Which all sounds well and good, but just how scary are we talking here?! I don’t want to be knocking my popcorn over in pure fright, I had enough of that with the first film.

Dauberman’s comments reinforce promises made by actor Jessica Chastain earlier in the year, which hinted at the fact one of the film’s scenes has more blood in it than any other movie in horror history. Which, y’know, is some going.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, Chastain said:

In the movie there’s a scene that someone said on set that it’s the most blood that’s ever been in a horror film. I’ll tell you, the next day I was like pulling blood out of my eyeballs.

Nah, that’s it. I’m out. I’ll let you lovely lot go and watch it for me and let me know how it was. Don’t go spilling your popcorn though.
