Warning: Spoilers and potential spoilers abound for Game of Thrones!
If you’re reading this then it’s likely that you’re a bit of a fan of Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones related theories.
It’s also likely that you’ve heard the often mentioned theory that Tyrion Lannister is in fact not a Lannister at all.
The theory goes that Tyrion is indeed of Targaryen blood, and a bastard child of his mother Joanna and Aerys Targaryen AKA The Mad King.
It’s a pretty solid theory, but there’s a possible theory that a lot of people don’t talk about that could be equally plausible.

Namely, that the big man Jaime and Queen Cersei could themselves be Targaryens.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: ‘why does everybody have to be a Targaryen?’
But hear me out, because for pretty much every reason we give for Tyrion being a Targaryen, we could use the same logic for Jaime and Cersei.
Most people know that Aerys had a bit of a thing for Joanna Lannister, so much so that he apparently bedded her on her wedding night to Tywin.
So that establishes that Joanna definitely had sex with Aerys, but it was way before Tyrion was born.
There are times later on when they could have got it on, and conceived Tyrion, but the wedding night is the big night that is mentioned a few times.
We also have the strange parallels between the Lannister twins and the behaviour of the Targaryens.
Targaryens are known for their incestuous ways, especially between brother and sister. It’s even established in the opening episodes of the show with Daenerys and Viserys.
Which other high profile incestuous family members do we know? That’s right – Jaime and Cersei.
There are also elements of similarity between Tyrion and Tywin that suggest they are father and son despite Tywin’s snide little digs to the contrary.
Tyrion definitely has a political mind to rival his fathers, whereas the two twins seem not to match them both in terms of sheer intelligence, they instead act on impulse and are reactive – similar to Targaryens.
Not to mention the way Cersei is drawing up some pretty hefty parallels between her and The Mad King with her penchant for burning everybody with Wildfire and pretty much becoming A Mad Queen.
Like father like daughter I suppose.
Now the repercussions of this might not be massive for Cersei as she’s still a sworn enemy of Daenerys and nothing is going to change that.
But let’s think about the Three Headed Dragon prophecy for just one minute.
It’s been a long standing part of Game of Thrones lore that in order to win, Daenerys must ride the three headed dragon.
Now obviously this doesn’t mean an actual dragon with three heads, but it might relate to Aegon the Conqueror who took over Westeros with his sisters, each with a dragon.
So, maybe Daenerys is supposed to take to the skies with her two siblings to help secure Westeros.
With the revelations of Jon Snow’s true parentage, it’s clear that he will take up one of the open slots with Dany’s dragons.
But what if the next open slot is filled by Jaime? That would carry more thematic weight than if Tyrion took the role as it would be a symbolic joining of all the disparate sides of the fight to help destroy the White Walkers once and for all.
