Ever since Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth went on their epic road trip across Westeros fans have wondered: ‘does the Kingslayer have eyes for the warrior woman?’
All the way back in Season Three Brienne was tasked by Catelyn Stark with returning Jaime to Kings Landing in the hopes that the Lannisters would release her daughters.
As we know things didn’t quite work out that way, but it did forge a fierce friendship between Brienne and Jaime who shared a moment in a bathhouse where the pair revealed their most intimate secrets.
This led fans to speculate whether Jaime cared for her more than he’d admit.
HBONow in an interview with IGN Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has confirmed that he believes that Jaime does have feelings for Brienne.
Speaking of their confessions in the bathhouse he said:
That was an act of love, I think, and it is an act of love when you open up to someone and for the other one to then literally embrace you is beautiful.
Coster-Waldau claims that the pair bonded because they both ‘share fundamental beliefs’ and are both ‘very honorable and alike’.
He added they’re both loyal to people who they love and are willing to do anything to help and protect these people.
HBOHe went on to say:
Of course, the later scenes, you constantly feel this subtext of a weird fondness and attraction between them that they never act on, and could never act on. It’s intriguing.
Unfortunately for ‘Br-aime’ fans Nikolaj has said that the pair ‘would never allow themselves to go to that place’ because the only love Jaime’s ever known is from Cersei, while Brienne believes she loves Renly.
So it seems that the pair will never be.
Except in the books, like the show, the unlikely pair stop off at the bath house and have a chat but Jaime feels something else when he sees Brienne out of her armour.
The line reads:
Jaime caught a glimpse of the thick blonde bush at the juncture of her thighs as she climbed out… he felt his cock stir beneath the bathwater.
So who knows maybe George R.R. Martin has a plan…
