Jason Bateman Will Not Work In Georgia If Abortion Bill Is Passed

The actor Jason Bateman has confirmed he will not work in the state of Georgia if the so-called heartbeat bill is passed into law.

In case you’ve missed the transformation of a number of US states in actual Gilead in the past week, the heartbeat bill is a measure to almost completely outlaw abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.

Last Tuesday, Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp signed the bill banning abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy. If a doctor defies the rules and performs the procedure, they can face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

But, if the bill is passed into law – as we have seen happen in Alabama and Missouri – some of the concerned Hollywood elite have threatened to move their work elsewhere, including Jason Bateman.

Speaking to the The Hollywood Reporter, he said:

If the ‘heartbeat bill’ makes it through the court system, I will not work in Georgia, or any other state, that is so disgracefully at odds with women’s rights.

This, gents, is how to be a real standup ally to your sisters over in America, whose human rights are being stripped away from them by – in Alabama’s case – 25 men.

You might assume this a relatively empty threat, but Bateman is currently filming the Netflix show Ozark and HBO’s The Outsider in the state of Georgia.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, in the event that other actors follow in Bateman’s footsteps by protesting the ban, the action could have a serious affect on Georgia’s economy.

The state has a famously generous 30 per cent tax credit system, meaning it’s used by a lot of major TV and movie companies for production and filming.
